Dog Names: Choose the Right Dog Name or Puppy Name the First Time
After searching long and hard, you’ve finally found the perfect dog. So what’s next?… Finding the perfect dog name of course!
Considering that over the course of your puppies lifetime his name will be used over 30,000 times, and that 1 in 5 new dog owners want to change their dogs name in the first year, choosing the right puppy name should be given as much care and thought as you showed when finding your pooch in the first place.
Below I’ve listed 10 dog naming tips taken from my website to be mindful of when looking for the right name, they are…
1. Avoid names that sound like common commands such as Go, Stay, Sit, etc. This might cause confusion for your puppy when trying to train it.
2. Be mindful that your dog might outgrow it’s name. The name Buttercup might be appropriate for a cute puppy, but not when it becomes a full grown Great Dane!
3. Choose a name with one or two syllables. Dogs not only learn it quicker, but it makes them easier to train as well.
4. Watch out for trendy names that might cause embarrassment once the trend is passed. Do you want people to realize from your dog’s name that you were once a big fan of Disco?
5. If you’ve adopted an older dog, it’s best to keep her current name so that it doesn’t become confused. If for some reason you must change it, consider a name that sounds similar or rhymes.
6. Beware of the common trend to name dogs after people. Though doing so is not a bad thing in itself, if you name your pup after a friend or family member, they might take offense. Although you might think naming your dog Sally after your favorite Aunt is an honor, Aunt Sally might not. Also, be kind to your dog and name her after someone you like.
7. Does the dog name rhyme with something negative? Or maybe with the name of a family member or friend? Once discovered, you might be one of those 1 in 5 people who want to change their dogs name!
8. Stay away from potentially embarrassing names. The name “Pee Wee” might be funny at first, but as the joke gets old, how will you feel in a year or so when you have to call “Pee Wee” home at night?
9. Pick a name that matches your dogs own unique appearance or personality. The name Electra might be a good name for an energetic pooch, but not for one that like’s to sleep all day.
10. Ask your dog what he thinks! Since it’s going to be his name, you might want to narrow your search down to your own 5 favorite names, then try them out on your dog. You’d be surprised how well he responds to some, yet yawns at others.

My dog has been acting funny about eating?
For a couple weeks now my dog, who is 8 months old, has been acting funny about eating. He will sometimes go up to the bowl,sniff at it and walk away. Sometimes he will eat part of it and leave the rest. He is acting completely normal, he’s really active and playful and has no vomiting or diahrrea at all. Has anyone experienced this with their dog? Could it be that he is tired of his food? I still have him on puppy chow because the vet says to keep him on it until 1 year old. Any advice would be appreciated!

Terrier Dogs – Their Characteristics At Different Phases
Terrier Dogs happen to have a wide variety of dispositions and temperaments that would interest anyone. They range from the funny to the aggressive.The variety of characteristics that these dogs show make them fit with any any time of owner. Though a warning should be issued as some can get very mischievous while others may tend to be very timid. Terriers were initially bred as hunting dogs meant to help in the catching of foxes, otters, rats, vermin and so on. breeds today have become domesticated though and are being added as companions or toy breeds.
Just like other breeds of dogs, the terriers have a wide variety of characteristics that make each one different from the other. They are distinguished for their guarding techniques and can easily differentiate between those who intend to cause harm and those who do not. their protective instinct is supposed to have come from the fact that earlier breeds were used in dog fights. After the sport was banned, breeders shifted to producing these dogs for the domestic market where many cross breeds produced keen, protective terriers.
Some notable breeds that came through this process include the Airedale Terrier, American Stafforshire Terrier and the Bedlington Terrier.
These dogs have a great talent and respond well to any form of training. In fact, Some Breeds are said to be endowed with a lot of natural intelligence which makes them ideal for training in obedience and for ring shows. Dogs of this kind require a lot of challenging activities that would train them physically and mentally. They must be involved in some sort of activity always or they will cause destruction if they get bored. As these dogs have greater intelligence, they will ultimately not cause that much of a wreck as larger breeds. Some types of these dogs also have great determination and a lot of disposition as well which gives them a sense of confidence. Some of these terrier dogs are fun loving and tend to be playful. They have a lively and gay nature makes them great entertainment for the family and have been loved for centuries for this very fun and frolic nature of theirs.
Terrier dogs that are social, need enough social exposure to get ready during maturity. Most of these kind of dogs tend to dominate the others when they reach that age of authority. The bull terrier types are the best example for this type. Surprisingly, some of the toughest terriers are actually the smallest. For example, the Cairn Dogs are relatively small and have a stocky build, yet they portray a nature of ever being ready to do things when it is necessary.
Most of the terrier breeds still maintain the traditional characteristics. They make great hunters but even then have a keen preference to human companionship. Many of these dogs have the speed, power and endurance that their predecessors possessed. It is not surprising that these dogs have the various characteristics that owners would love, as these dogs have been around for a very long time.

What’s something funny your dog does every day?
My husband thinks it is funny that Molly only does this with me. Every time I ask “Do you want to go potty?” she immediately runs to where Eli is and starts barking at him. Every morning, Eli is let out of his crate first, then Molly. Eli goes into the laundry room and to the back door with Molly trailing behind him and barking at him. It never fails.
