Why does my dog smell funny after she is left alone for an extended period of time?
This weekend I went out of town, and left my dog at home by herself. I had the neighbor let her out 3 times a day. When I returned home, she smelled very “dog” like. This is not the first time this has happened. Even if my wife and I leave the dog at home with just our son over the weekend, she develops this very “dog” like smell.
Anyone know why this is?
Dogs have anal glands that secrete foul smelling musk when they have a bm. They can also secrete this substance when they are anxious. My guess is your dog was upset that you were away, and did this. Ask your groomer or vet to check the anal gland, it may need help emptying.
Have you found any freshly dug holes ? when im not looking my dogs roll around in the garden and get covered in all sorts of crap. But when im watching they walk on the footpath,they are just like kids when mom+dad aren,t looking watch out. I have to bath my dogs before i leave + as soon as I get back even if its just overnight. . . . MAYBE yours are the same. . . . Liz.
